Establishment Of KMU-NCDs Hospital Laudable: Health Advisor To CM

Health Advisor to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Prof. Dr. Riaz Anwar has said that the hospital is built for the treatment of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) by Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar will provide on one hand, quality treatment facilities for diabetes, mental diseases, cancer, stroke, chest diseases, and heart diseases, then on the other hand, this hospital will also prove to be an ideal center of knowledge and research. All facilities required by this hospital will be provided on a priority basis. The valuable services rendered by KMU in health education are unforgettable and exemplary for other institutions. 

He expressed these views while visiting the proposed KMU-NCDS hospital and KMU Public Health Reference Lab and addressing the inauguration ceremony of Diploma in Preventive Cardiology and Diploma in Cardiac Rehabilitation programs as chief guest. On this occasion, vice-chancellor KMU Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq, Registrar Inamullah Wazir, Controller of Examinations Prof. Dr. Salim Gandapur, Director P&D, Director Family Medicine, renowned oncologists Dr. Amjad and Dr. Fawad and other relevant officials were also present.

Prof. Dr. Riaz Anwar said that he himself has been a part of KMU and has always been proud of KMU's performance and services. He said that KMU's decision to establish NCDs hospital is the need of the hour and this hospital will not only reduce the increasing pressure of non-communicable diseases on society but also provide state-of-the-art treatment for non-communicable diseases. He said that he was happy to know that this hospital would provide dual opportunities for treatment and research, which would open up new avenues in the treatment of non-communicable diseases on the one hand and post-graduate level research opportunities in all these fields on the other hand.  

Prof. Dr. Riaz Anwar while appreciating the historical role played by KMU-PHRL during the coronavirus pandemic assured that all the needs of this lab will be met on a priority basis and not only in this regard but also for NCDs hospital he will also talk to the Finance Minister for the purchase of the modern nuclear radiotherapy machine. He termed the launching of a diploma in Preventive Cardiology and a diploma in Cardiac Rehabilitation as the need of the hour and said that such short courses will help prevent the increasing number of heart diseases and strokes in society.

He assured the vice-chancellor of KMU that he would take all necessary measures apart from meeting the relevant officials of the Education Department to introduce the Life Support Program as compulsory training in all the educational institutions of the province.

Earlier, vice-chancellor KMU Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq welcomed the Health Advisor on his arrival at the university and gave him a detailed briefing about the proposed NCDs Hospital, PHRL, and academic and research activities of the university. On which the Health Advisor expressed his satisfaction and assured all possible support and patronage from the Department of Health and the Provincial Government. Finally, the Health Advisor officially inaugurated the Diploma in Preventive Cardiology and Diploma in Cardiac Rehabilitation besides visiting the proposed NCDs Hospital and PHRL
