KMU Hosts Three-Day Workshop of Diabetes Prevention (December 22, 2023)

Khyber Medical University (KMU) in Peshawar recently concluded a transformative three-day workshop organized by the Institute of Public Health and Social Sciences (IPH&SS)KMU, under the umbrella of CENTER FOR IMPACT(C4), focused on no communicable disease control. The culminating day of the workshop unfolded into a vibrant event graced by the esteemed Vice Chancellor KMU Prof Dr.Zia Ul Haq and  Pro-VC KMU, Prof. Dr. Rubina Nazli, with the event spearheaded by the diligent efforts of Associate Prof. Dr. Khalid Rehman.

At the heart of this initiative lies EMPOWER-D, a project generously funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) in the United Kingdom. This groundbreaking endeavor is housed under the Center for IMPACT (C4I), a collaborative partnership between KMU, the University of York, the Aga Khan University, and the Baqai Institute of Diabetology and Endocrinology. Focused on diabetes prevention through active community participation, the project is under the dynamic leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zia Ul Haq, Dr. Khalid Rehman, and the Director ORIC KMU Dr. Zohaib Khan.

VC KMU Prof Dr. Zia Ul Haq, in his address at the event, commended the unwavering dedication and enthusiasm of the participants, organizers, trainers, and other stakeholders. He emphasized that the overarching goal of C4I is to alleviate the burden of non-communicable diseases in Pakistan. Dr. Zia urged the participants to extend the reach of such awareness workshops, ensuring the dissemination of vital information to the general public.
Pro Vice Chancellor of Khyber Medical University (KMU), Prof. Dr. Rubina Nazli, delivered a compelling address during the culminating event of a transformative three-day workshop organized by the Institute of Public Health and Social Sciences (IPH&SS) KMU, in collaboration with the IMPACT (C4I)Project. In a call to action, Dr. Rubina Nazli urged the workshop participants to extend  such awareness initiatives beyond the workshop venue. She stressed the need to reach a wider audience, ensuring the dissemination of vital health information to the general public. "Your role doesn't end here; it begins in taking what you've learned and sharing it with your communities," she encouraged.

In a fitting conclusion to the event, the honorable co-guest, Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Rubina Nazli, personally distributed certificates of recognition among the participating organizers and trainers. The ceremony marked not only the successful conclusion of the workshop but also a collective step towards a healthier, more informed society.
